Your Summer Reset: Finding Wisdom in Proverbs 3

Welcome to our "Summer in Proverbs" series! Summer is a time for a reset—a chance to step away from the usual noise and find clarity. This week, we’re finding that reset in Proverbs 3, a chapter packed with wisdom for a peaceful and purposeful life.

Admitting We Don't Know It All

It’s easy to think we have life figured out. We get comfortable with what we know: the grass is green, the sky is blue. Then, a surprise sunrise shows up, painting the sky in colors we didn't expect.

Life is full of those "orange sky" moments that challenge what we think we know. True wisdom doesn’t come from having all the answers. It begins when we humbly admit that we don't, and we open ourselves up to learn. As Proverbs says, "Happy is a man who finds wisdom."

The Heart of the Matter

At the center of the chapter lies one of the most powerful invitations in Scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight."

This is the core of our reset. It’s a call to shift our dependence from ourselves to God.

  • "Trust in the LORD with all your heart" means leaning into God's character completely, believing He is good and His ways are right, even when we can’t see the road ahead.

  • "Do not rely on your own understanding" means letting go of the need to have everything figured out on our own terms.

  • "In all your ways know him" is about inviting God into every part of our life—our work, our family, our decisions, our worries.

The promise is that when we do this, He brings clarity and direction. He makes our paths straight.

Wisdom in Action

This deep trust in God should change how we live and how we treat people. It's not just an internal feeling; it’s an external action. Proverbs 3 gives us a practical checklist:

  • When you can do good for someone, do it without delay.

  • Don’t plan harm against a neighbor who trusts you.

  • Let love and faithfulness be central to your identity.

Kindness and integrity are the natural results of a life that truly trusts God. They are signs that His wisdom is at work in us.

Your Weekly Reset

As you go about your week, consider these simple steps:

  1. Let Go: What is one thing you are trying to figure out on your own? Consciously decide to trust God with it this week.

  2. Act with Kindness: Look for one opportunity to do good for someone without expecting anything in return.

  3. Acknowledge Him: In your daily decisions, pause and ask, "God, what would honor you in this situation?"
