This past week, our kids' church explored a super important idea: We can give back to God! Just like everyone on a movie crew has a special job to make a great film, God gives each of us unique gifts to use for good.
We kicked things off thinking about all the different jobs on a movie set. From the director guiding actors to the stunt person doing cool tricks, every role matters. It showed us how God makes each of us unique, with different skills and talents we can use to serve Him and others.
The main event was bringing The Parable of the Bags of Gold (Matthew 25:14-29) to life! We acted out Jesus' story of a wealthy owner who gave three workers different amounts of gold. Two worked hard and doubled their master's money, but the third just buried his. This powerful parable taught us that God gives everyone different gifts and abilities, and the worst thing we can do is nothing at all with them. There’s always a way to give back to God if we try! We even had a cool "Multiplying Corners" object lesson. We started with a piece of paper and kept cutting off corners, but each time we did, new ones appeared! This showed us that giving back to God might feel like we're losing something, but God has a way of multiplying what we offer.
Our learning continued into Sunday as we reflected on what God wants us to do with what we've learned. We created a "Big Picture Storyboard," where we could draw or write about what stuck out to us most from the parable. This helped us think about the "bags of gold" God has given us – like our skills, responsibilities, or even the stuff we have. We imagined what the world would look like if everyone used what God gave them to help others – pretty amazing!
Then, for our "Make It Reel" activity, we committed to one action step for the week. We thought of practical ways to give back to God, like baking cookies for a neighbor, helping organize a messy closet, or telling friends about Jesus. The possibilities are endless because God gives all of us different and wonderful things we can give back to Him!
Memory Verse: Jeremiah 33:3: "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know". It was a week filled with fun, learning, and powerful reminders that we can all make our unique gifts shine by giving back to God!
